Make sure to purchase the most energy-efficient tire after referring to the Energy Efficiency Label for Tires
Make sure to purchase the most energy-efficient tire after referring to the Energy Efficiency Label for Tires
Choose the tire size recommended by the vehicle manufacturer
Balance the tires regularly to reduce tire-road friction
Maintain proper tire air pressure as recommended by the manufacturer
Do not use spare tires and off-road tires for permanent (daily) use, as this type of tires is intended for temporary use only
How to read a tire energy efficiency label?
The tire energy efficiency label consists of two sides: the left side is concerned with energy efficiency and the expected amount of fuel savings with this tire, and the right side is about the tire's wet grip and its rolling resistance. There are 6 categories for each side, starting from very bad and ending with excellent. If the black arrow is on the excellent rank, i.e. on the green color in the energy efficiency section, this means the tire is one of the most fuel-efficient tires. If the arrow is on the bad rank, i.e. on the orange color, this means the tire consumes higher amounts of fuel. You will also find two indexes on the card; The index on the left shows the rank of energy efficiency, and the index on the right shows the rank of wet grip. Inside the index, the tyre class is written in English.
What is the difference between the energy efficiency label categories and how much is the savings between one category and another?
The higher the rank of energy efficiency, the lower the tire's rolling resistance, reducing fuel consumption and improving the vehicle's performance. The wet grip reduces the distance required for the vehicle to stop when using the brakes.
What other efforts has the Kingdom made to save energy consumption in the transportation sector?
There are many initiatives related to the transportation sector, some of which have been implemented and others are being worked on. The most important ones are working on the fuel efficiency label for new light vehicles, the fuel efficiency standard for imported light vehicles, the fuel saving system for vehicles on the road, and initiatives to reduce fuel consumption in heavy transport vehicles.
What factors should be taken into consideration when changing tires?
There is no specific distance or time for this, but changing the tire depends on several factors such as design, driving style, climate, and road conditions. The wear of the tire surface or the appearance of the so-called wear bars, which are narrow horizontal strips of smooth rubber on the tire's tread, the protrusion of a wire or piece of rubber, cracks and punctures or damage beyond repair all mean it's time to replace your tires. You should change the tire if the tire shows three or more tread wear indicators.
How does maintaining tire pressure reduce consumption?
Keeping the tire air pressure as recommended helps prevent the tire from denting when it comes in contact with the road, thus reducing the tire’s rolling resistance and fuel consumption.
When did the implementation of the standard and control of customs and markets begin?
The implementation of the first phase of the standard began on November 1, 2015, for imported and locally manufactured tires.
Does buying the most energy-efficient tire affect the car's performance?
Yes, buying a high-efficiency tire gives the vehicle better performance than a low-efficiency tire.
Does buying the most energy-efficient tire affect the speed of the car?
No, there is no direct relationship between the speed and the tire, as the relationship is between the energy efficiency of the tire and the vehicle's performance.
Is there a table that shows the suitable size and type of tire for each car?
No, the size of the tire varies according to the model of the vehicle; Each model has a specific size that can be known through the authorized agent or the brochure of the vehicle's manufacturer. The type of tire differs according to the type of use as well. There are tires for racing, tires for off-road driving, and tires for driving on snow.
What are the advantages of buying a high-efficiency tire?
Tires with high energy efficiency improve the overall performance of the vehicle and reduce the load on the engine. Because it reduces the rolling resistance of the tire on the surface on which the vehicle is running.
What are the most important tips related to tires that affect fuel efficiency?
Among the most important tips that have a significant impact on reducing consumption and preserving the life of the tire: maintaining ideal air pressure in the tire, balancing the tires periodically, and choosing the tire size recommended by the car manufacturer.
Do tires with new cars comply with energy efficiency requirements?
The tires comply with the energy efficiency requirements as of November 2016 for light car tires, and as of November 2017 for heavy truck tires.
What is the energy consumption of the transportation sector in the Kingdom?
According to 2021 data, the transportation sector consumes about 18% of the total energy in the Kingdom.
